Welcome to English 115!

Course Description

In this course, you will continue to work on assignments given in your English 110 course (or other writing-intensive course). Each week, you will workshop specific parts of your writing, give feedback to your peers, or engage in discussions about how to interpret assignments, address feedback, and engage with other parts of the writing process.

The course emphasizes the development of a set of skills that will strengthen your writing and increase your awareness of the choices you make when you write beyond your first year composition class.

Learning Goals

In this course, you will develop and practice the critical thinking and writing skills that you will need in college and beyond, and gain confidence as a writer and reader who will be able to:

  • Use writing techniques to respond to readings and to discover your own ideas on assigned topics.
  • Practice forms of writing that you must complete in college.
  • Develop editing skills that focus on organization, analysis, development, and making grammatical and stylistic choices that are effective for your purpose.
  • Receive individualized instruction and practice to improve your writing.
